This course is intended for students with average reading and writing skills. It is designed to help students apply language arts skills to personal and academic purposes as well as discover how historical context shapes literature. Students will use knowledge of word parts and origins, analyze various genres and make generalizations from the study of American Literature. Students will also write a variety of compositions using standard English grammar, participate in planned and impromptu oral presentations, and evaluate verbal and non-verbal communication in practical listening situations. Finally, students will utilize technology and develop research skills. Students will receive an ACT and vocabulary workbook, which accompanies the course.
